I always find that the in-between parts of the year yield the best fashion. When it’s too hot, all you can wear is shorts and a tank; when it’s too cold, all you want to do is wear 1.8 million layers of socks. Those peaks of the year leave no room for fun fashion, forcing us to fall victim to “practical” over stylish.
Thankfully, this part of the year allows us to wear the outfits in our closet that we “swear we’ll wear when the weather changes.” Cool pants, long dresses and black-on-black seem to be the most frequent flyers in my summer-to-fall wardrobe. |
COOL PANTS (emphasis on the word "cool")
Not only are these pants the perfect fall color, but they are practical; I mean, did you see the pockets on the sides? And if that didn’t make them cool enough, let me mention that they are also freaking joggers. Yes, that means sandals, sneakers and heels are all appropriate for these pants.
I paired these pants with a white, silk cami from JCrew (which, by the way, is on sale) and did what I do best: drink coffee out of my bougie mug while staring longingly into the distance (likely imagining what it would be like to live in Carrie Bradshaw’s closet post-Mr. Big-reconciliation).

LONG DRESSES (because it's always too damn hot in the summer)
Ok this dress + a black leather jacket… just picture that for a moment. And can we talk about the open sides on this dress? If you are daring enough to go sans-brassiere or even wear stick-boobs with this, all the power to you. I settled on a white sports bra, no I’m not kidding, to give myself a little more… coverage.
My shoes are Stuart Weitzman and I found them at Lord & Taylor’s ~on sale~ about a month ago. At the time I thought “where am I ever going to wear these?” and then I put this dress on and though “now; now is when I am going to wear these.”

BLACK-ON-BLACK
Wearing black in the summer during the day is risky with all those flaming hot rays beating down on you. But in September those rays feel just a bit less intense and somehow wearing all black doesn’t seem like a sentence from Satan’s living room.
For this look I kept that white Lulu on because it was noon o’clock and, like my dress, I needed a little more coverage. But come nighttime, this bodysuit is perfect for a night out with friends (or just hanging out in your apartment watching 70s reruns on Netflix (@me)).

(Here’s a link to a similar version of jeans from TOBI since mine are 3 years old and Brandy Melville stopped selling them).
