Not only juice

WILLIMANTIC, CT

Not Only Juice is the only cold-pressed juicery in northeastern Connecticut and lives up to its name, as it certainly offers more than just juice. 

Upon walking in to the cafè I was struck by the quaint and slightly hipster vibe–something I was not expecting in Willimantic, CT. There was a perfect combination of old and new pieces without looking too overdone. After working at a home and gardens magainze last summer, interiors RLY stand out to me. 

The cold-pressed juices were on display in a large fridge to the right of the checkout counter and, by the looks of it, had sold out of many flavors by the time I got there. I bought the "Sweet Greens" blend and when my friend said, "How is it? Should I get it? What does it taste like?" I responded with, "It tastes like...green juice." It was good, not overly bitter, but bitter enough.

I only got a juice that day but my friend bought the beet burger, listed as: "sugar beet: a bistro burger." It is made with beet, egg, oatmeal, feta, onion and garlic and is topped with lettuce, sprouts and a lemon-basil aioli. When I asked her how it was she responded with one of those full-mouth-head-nods so as to indicate it was, I'm assuming, good. 

I wish I had remembered to take a photo of the menu on the entry wall. It was a floor to ceiling display of all the different options Not Only Juice had to offer. The cutest part, however, was the sign that covered one of the smoothies to denote that it was no longer available. But instead of using those exact words, the sign said "no longer in season" conveying a sense of freshness in the overall production of each menu option. ​

Needless to say I WILL be back...most likely with impending homework and a desire for a cozy atmosphere. Oh, and also an appetite.
