Clothes you should buy in larger sizes
There is a time and a place for form-fitting clothing. This is neither the time nor the place.
Regardless of your figure, wearing oversized clothes compliments your body type and allows you to eat (everything) without the worry of looking like you are carrying a food baby. These 6 clothing-types are among the many that you should buy in larger sizes, just because. |
1. Button downs

One of THE hardest things to shop for, I am convinced. If you buy a button down in your true size then it feels small; if you buy a button down in a “boyfriend” style then you can’t wear it to work (unless, of course, you are living the dream and working in a cool-person office). What I have found is that going up one or two sizes usually remedies this ultimate struggle. And if *that* doesn’t work, maybe try shopping somewhere else.
2. White t-shirts

You know when you wake up and think “I can’t do clothes?” Unfortunately for you, you can’t act on that thought in public. However, I have found that wearing an oversized t-shirt with leggings, boots and a jacket seems to get me in publicly presentable and comfortable.
3. Stylish sweatpants aka joggers

Every time I put on joggers I always mutter “apartment pants” to myself and remember that episode of “Friends” when Phoebe refers to work pants as apartment pants. To this day, I’m not exactly sure what that means but I have come to think of apartment pants as pants that are comfortable enough to wear on your couch but also ok enough to wear on someone else’s couch.
4. Denim jackets

When denim jackets came back in I couldn’t tell if I was happy or sad. Back in the 90s, when they were all the rage, I found them constricting and uncomfortable. But now with the emphasis on wearing jackets only half on your body, the jackets are being styles as larger and therefore eradicating my previously described issue.
5. Sweatshirts

This one...kinda goes without saying. Sweatshirts worn in your true size make me go “why why why why why why.”
6. Puffer jackets

Again with the big jacket trend. I recently dug out my mom’s huge puffer jacket from ~back in the day~ and have never felt so free 2 b me. The best part about this trend is that you are finally allowed to wear your jacket all the time; in other words, when big, warm jackets become part of the outfit, we all get happy.
