JUST BEING DEVINE

beauty/health tips for finals week

It’s that time of the semester, ladies (ok, sorry but this article only applies to ladies). If this is your first finals week in college, congratulations! You will watch what can only be described as a Discovery Channel documentary of the disintegration of your face and body over a 10-day period of time. If you are a seasoned finals week veteran, welcome back!

Sometimes there is just nothing we can do; the ugly seems to take over. But I have found in my 7 semesters that there are a few ways to remedy those under-eye bags and keep your hair (and skin) from turning that strange, kind of gray color.
1. Drink more water than coffee

Hey so I live on coffee. On those days when I neglect my caffeine I turn into this weird, tired monster. On the days when all I drink is coffee I turn into a dehydrated, antsy person. Also not good. Every once and a while, I’ll really have it together and drink water throughout the day alongside my coffee. It keeps me energized and clear headed. Try to keep this in mind next week.

2. Shower at the end of the day(/morning)?

When I’m not posting on JBD, I am a digital producer for the school paper. I work really late hours and there is nothing like taking a quick shower when I get home to unwind and wash the newsroom off of me. I promise you have 5-10 minutes to stand in the shower and take deep breaths.

3. Also shower in the morning

This…..shouldn’t be a shock.

4. Alternate between coffee and green tea

My friends and I all agree that there is a different caffeinated feeling that comes from coffee and green tea. Where coffee makes us jittery and jumpy, green tea seems to make us more focused and calm. If you have a long morning/day/night ahead of you, I would recommend coffee when you wake up, coffee mid-morning/early afternoon and green tea around 3pm. You don’t want to have caffeine too late in the day and stay awake all night.

5. Keep your skin moisturized

It’s getting cold out which means the air is drier and more likely to crack your skin (aw, so cute). Keep a small bottle of moisturizer in your bag and just apply a little every once and while–especially after washing your hands. School soap is so drying.

6. Get some sleep (haha)

If you get a good night’s sleep then you are likely to reduce the under-eye bags and sallow look in your face. Wake up early, go to bed early.
7. You don’t need a full face of makeup
During my freshman year, I showed up to the library in a full face of makeup and a legitimately cute outfit. I walked past a table of girls and heard one mutter “it’s finals week…” VERY condescendingly. And while it was *so* unnecessary, she wasn’t wrong. No one expects you to look like Candice Swanepoel. If you’re spending more time getting ready in the morning than studying for exams, you’re doing it wrong.
8. Don’t wear a heavy foundation

There is something about college library air that is kind of humid, kind of dry and kind of makes your skin pH...change. I can’t explain it. You don’t want to be wearing anything that’s going to make you more uncomfortable than you already are.

9. Chill

Stressed looks good on no one. Cheers.
